Airport Info
  • There are a number of ways to reach Tuscany. Delta flies from New York JFK into Pisa's Galileo Galilei Airport (PSA; www.pisa-airport.com). Eurofly also flies nonstop from JFK to Bologna, which is only an hour away from the border with Tuscany (BLQ; www.bologna-airport.it). Otherwise, the choice is between Rome's Leonardo da Vinci Airport at Fiumicino (FCO; www.adr.it)—a good hopping-off point for southern Tuscany—and Milan Malpensa (MXP; www.sea-aeroportimilano.it/en).
  • The other major gateway serving Italy is Milan's Malpensa International Airport (MXP).
  • Domestic Italian flights also run out of Pisa, as well as flights to and from London and other European destinations. There is a smaller airport in Peretola, west of Florence, too, with scheduled service by carriers such as Air France and Lufthansa: Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR; www.aeroporto.firenze.it. From there, it is a short train ride into the city.
Main Airlines
  • All major international carriers fly into Rome's Leonardo da Vinci Airport, while Tuscany's smaller airports are served by specific airlines. See above.
Approximate Travel Time

How to Get There
  • The nearest international airports to Siena are Peretola Airport in Florence and Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa.
  • Siena can be reached by train from both Pisa and Florence, changing at Empoli. Siena's train station is located at the bottom of a long hill outside the city walls, and travelers with luggage should look for a taxi or bus (from the stop opposite the station).
  • By road, Siena is linked to Florence by a "superstrada" (the Raccordo Autostradale RA03 - Siena-Firenze), a form of toll free autostrada, albeit with narrower lanes, with a less well maintained surface and sharper bends. The superstrada to Florence is indicated on some road signs with the letters SI-FI.
