Where to go? What should we do there? What if Bill/Jen/Mike doesn’t like it?? If you think vacation planning is a challenge when it’s just you, your loved one and a few friends, just imagine how tough it gets for those travelers with kids to factor into the equation! While some of our favorite villa destinations cater more to adults, many offer interesting ways to get the kids involved too. Here are our suggestions of destinations guaranteed to keep your kids (big and small) happy, busy and entertained.
PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA
When it comes to laid-back relaxation with a smorgasbord of options for all. Palm Springs is the ticket. A desert oasis among the mountains of California, it’s vacation central for sports addicts young and old offering hiking, exploring and of course, plenty of top-notch golf courses. Whether the kids are just learning the game or already perfecting their drives, Andreas Hills Golf Home is your villa; located on the sixth hole of the Indian Canyon Golf Club & Course, it accommodates up to 8 guests. It’s a great place to introduce the youngsters to a different culture and give them an unforgettable taste of what many think of when they hear the enchanting phrase, ‘European vacation’. Rent the two-bedroom Paris Loft in the 2nd Arrondissement, the historic-looking façade of which belies a modern interior); it’s close enough to walk to the Louvre (your kids can brag to their friends that they saw the real Mona Lisa) The streets around the two-bedroom Sorbonne Suite, in the centre of the chic Latin Quarter, are ideal for strolling around with the kids and soaking up the atmosphere (and an authentic sweet crepe... or ten!); more sophisticated teens will appreciate the Sorbonne university and Pantheon just around the corner.
 
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
If you really want your kids to experience something a little more unusual, however, and still enjoy the sun and sand that they’re craving, take the lead of our savvy villa vacationers who head to the southern tip of South Africa. For kids who love the beach and parents who love mixing a beach vacation with some hiking, whale-watching and wine tours (for the older crowd), this urban gem at the base of the impressive Table Mountain serves up a feast of options.
