Our Favorite Yachts with Fun Extras
Toys for grown-ups!
By Heather Whipps

The truth is in the details, as they say. In the case of yacht charters, the fun is in the details—because, while there are certain bits and pieces required for a successful yacht charter, the rest is truly up to the limits of the imagination (ok, and storage space!). Most yacht extras come in the form of water toys, but we’re talking much more than your garden variety blow-up tube. Many yachts include extra boats, and not just of the inflatable dinghy variety: usually towed behind or stored onboard the yacht, these motorized vessels are used for fishing, short excursions and for whipping water skiers around across the waves. Scuba gear is also common, letting guests enjoy what’s beneath the water too. It’s a lot of stuff you wouldn’t necessarily need to bring along on your adventure on the sea, but chances are your family will remember these "extra" moments the most.

Here are a few of our favorite "fun extras" yachts:

Celtic Pride
A smaller ship, the Celtic Pride packs an incomprehensible selection of entertainment goodies, most naturally geared towards the water. Anchor during its winter trips through the Caribbean and explore little islets on its wave runners. The kids can learn to snorkel and spot bright tropical fish with the gear provided on board too. Other fun stuff: water skis, wakeboard and a 19’ inflatable tender.

Still Ruthless
This sleek ship can accommodate six guests in style, with leather detailing and lounges overlooking the water off the stern. It’s when guests want to throw decorum to the wind and let their hair loose that Still Ruthless really shines: on-board toys include a 24’ Intrepid tender, fishing gear, waterskis and all sorts of towable inflatables.

Darling
She may look all traditional and classic, but that doesn’t mean sailing yacht Darling isn’t stacked with modern amenities and plenty of good-time extras. With children’s water skis and snorkel gear on-board, the younger set especially might find it hard to disembark at the end of your tour. Other amusements on offer for its seven guests include a seven-seat Yamaha tender, scuba and snuba gear and fishing gear.

Lady Diana
It’s got toys on board to keep everyone in your group happy, but four-cabin Lady Diana will charm the fishermen among you, especially. Among its standard water toys—sea doos, water skis, snorkel gear—the ship counts a full 34’ Venture Center tender with a tower rigged for fishing, full gear and hydraulic outriggers. Its usual trolling waters around Florida and the Bahamas will tempt with game fishing to rival any in the world.

EXTRA-VAGANZA

While water toys of some kind are somewhat standard, certain larger yachts have been known to take the “extras” concept to the extreme. One Mediterranean cruiser is outfitted with its own helicopter (and pad), Vespas and floating trampoline.
