Once the muse of Spanish explorers, gold prospectors and cowboys, Arizona is now a hot bed of winter vacationing for all. Here at Luxury Retreats, we're proud to add this new destination to our repertoire of luxury villas. We think you'll love the raw landscapes and 300 days of sunshine the state gets per year, the desert spas and the lively, modern cities at its heart. It's a unique slice of America truly unlike any other. Just ask the prospectors: they didn't find much gold, but stuck around anyway.
 
Phoenix and Scottsdale, a satellite community often called the "Beverly Hills" of the desert, are the foci of Arizona's otherwise pristine ring of desert territory. Both cities are busy, but benefit from plenty of sedate nooks and crannies created by the mountain plateaus that surround them. That's where you'll find our villas. Use them as your base to explore all that the cities have to offer: great sporting opportunities, like hiking and golf galore (especially in Scottsdale), fine dining and shopping. Phoenix in particular is a growing cultural center, with world-class museums and a nightlife and lounge scene to rival any city in the West.
Outside of the cities, you can drive forever through Arizona's golden deserts and past burnt orange rock formations without seeing another soul. That is, until you reach the Grand Canyon; one of America's most popular and famous attractions, this natural gorge is a spectacular sight not to be missed. See it up close with a thrilling white-water rafting trip. It's one of many activities the family can do together in Arizona. Horseback riding, like the cowboys of old Arizona, is another must-do here.
The more peaceful travelers are also in luck, as Arizona is the spa capital of the Western United States. There's just something in the combination of heat and the dry desert air that is an elixir for whatever ails you. A day at the spa is also a great way to rejuvenate during the winter, when temperatures in Scottsdale and Phoenix are heavenly compared with those elsewhere in the country. Most offer day packages where you can get a few treatments, then just generally enjoy the zen-like environment.

Located in the exclusive Phoenix enclave fittingly called Paradise Valley, Casa Fiesta is surrounded by views of Camelback Mountain and the famous "Praying Monk" rock outcropping. Pinnacle Canyon
This four-bedroom villa is wrapped around a golf course in a gated community on the quiet northern border of Scottsdale. Camelback Vista
Entire walls of glass are all that separate you from the views at Camelback Vista, a new five-bedroom home built to maximize its land atop Camelback Mountain. A triangular, one hundred and fifty percent infinity pool seems to drop over the mountain's edge and points towards to lights of Phoenix. Nothing was spared in style or function.
Just Deserts
Arizona isn't all sand and cacti, but a large part of it is covered by desert territory, some designated National parkland. The Sonoran Desert is one of the largest and hottest, rich in wildlife and origin of the famous Saguaro cactus. Both Phoenix and Scottsdale are located within the desert's generous boundaries. |
